She was born in Peabody on August 28, 1917, the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Mary (Freitas) Luz and was a life long resident of Peabody.
Mary had worked earlier in her life at the GTE Sylvania Lighting Plant in Salem and later after her children had grown worked at the Polypacks Company in Wakefield for 12 years prior to her retirement.
She enjoyed dancing and flower arranging and was skilled in arts and crafts. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband. Her greatest treasure was helping her family with her gracious smile and loving care and concern for all her family and siblings.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, John Champlain of Daytona, Florida and Joseph and Frances Champlain of Beverly, a daughter, Donna Champlain of Byfield, 3 brothers, Raymond Luz of Peabody, Richard Luz of Brick, N.J., and Rudolph Luz of Phoenix, AZ, a sister Josephine Gambarony of Brick, NJ, six grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Aldora Spence, Amelia Watt, Anthony Luz, Eliza Mattos, George Luz, Robert Luz and Joseph Luz.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn ST., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 A.M. from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, So. Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice.
