William B. Castle, a resident of Saugus since 1957, died at his home on Thursday, July 24 following a long illness.
Born in Toms Creek, W. Va., he attended school there and joined the U.S. Army in June of 1943 and served until March, 1946. During World War II, he served in Normandy and was the recipient of the good conduct medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Bronze Arrowhead and the WWII victory ribbon.
Following the service, he married Rita Villani and moved to Revere, her hometown. They resided there until 1957. He was a longtime member of the Saugus VFW. For over 40 years he was the plant manager for Marson Corp until his retirement.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, his is the father of Blaine, of Saugus, and Kenneth J. Castle and his wife, Laurie, of Stratham, N.H. He is the grandfather of Adam Castle and his wife, Melissa of Concord, N.H., Blaine Castle and his wife, Lucia, of Saugus, Deana Covino and her husband, Anthony, of Peabody, Audra Romani and her fiancée, Scott Spindler of Stoneham, Kelly Lapesa and her husband, Steven and Allison Gavin, all of Manchester-by-the-Sea. He is the brother of Edith Lyon and Annilee Fly, both of West Virginia and the late Irene Castell, Castleteen Cagle, Robert Castle and Bvenia Long. He is also survived by his nine great-grandchildren, Amanda, Krista and Maia Castle, Jack and Ella Castle, Mia and Maci Covino, Anothony and Morgan Laspesa, and many nieces and nephews. He is the father-in-law of Fredda Castle, of Stoneham.
Visiting hours will be held in the Vertuccio Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) in Revere on Sunday, July 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held from the funeral home on Monday, July 28 at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Revere.
